We are excited to share with you the Journal of International Interdisciplinary Literacy, the JIIL. This journal draws from life experiences of authors worldwide to understand and illustrate complexities of shifting borders, boundaries, and barriers across languages, literacies, and disciplines. The journal seeks to re-envision, reconceptualize, navigate, and negotiate borders across languages and communities. JIIL encourages and calls for authors around the world to consider how literacy and language practices in different contexts inform each other. The JIIL illustrates intersectionality among multiple audiences and opens doors for knowledge producers. Its aim is to build bridges across cultures, contexts, and disciplines by exploring literacies and languages from birth through adulthood. This journal is different in that it provides a space to explore and expand interdisciplinary literacy in various languages and modalities. What does that mean or look like? Authors may submit work in any language and through a variety of diverse Authors are invited to share their work using formats that include personal narratives, essays, literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative research, photo essays, audio and video files, music pieces, artwork of any type (sketch, comic, paint, photography, 3D artifacts), as well as any other original format. The JIIL is made up of four categories which include transnational insights, international perspectives, experiences across disciplines and fields, and lastly a column, Reflections Across Communities. Reviewers represent voices and experiences from a variety of disciplines, fields, languages, and geographic locations. The JIIL is a peer-reviewed open access journal with no publication fees. The journal is published twice a year to encourage accessibility for multiple audiences. The journal includes interviews with authors about their own work and also includes other media files of authors reading their manuscripts or presenting their work. The JIIL strives to create experiences that increase connectivity and access in a myriad of ways. Users of the journal website can experience the JILL through print texts, images, audio clips, visual clips, and visual formats.
